After all danger of frost, in a sunny location, sow 5 seeds spaced evenly over a hill 9 to 12 inches tall and 2 feet across. When the plants are 3 inches tall, thin by cutting all but the 3 strongest seedlings per hill. To avoid weeding, mulch heavily around plants and in the rows.

"I picked up this seed pack at my local Home Depot. I have waited weeks and this seed has not germinated at all! I planted just about the whole packet in my germination tray, and all my other seedlings have come up by now, but no scallop squash :(. I have checked on some of the seeds and it doesn't look like any roots have come out. I'm super disappointed because I was really excited to try this kind of squash!"

"Smallish garden -- planted only 8 seeds from the packet individually in starter pots. All 8 germinated quickly, and are looking quite hearty and robust under the grow lights. They'll be moved to the greenhouse shortly, and planted outside mid-March.
