These long green bean pods are filled with tender, delicious greenish-white peas marked with a prominent black eye. Black-eyed peas, also known as cowpea, are the most popular of all southern pea varieties.

Sow California Blackeye Cowpea seeds roughly 3" apart in rows, keeping each row approximately 3' apart.
Sow California Blackeye Cowpea seeds directly in the garden in full sun after the soil warms. Plant 2 seeds every 3". Thin to 1 plant every 3" when they have 4 leaves. Keep the soil moist to encourage growth.
For healthy vines, don't plant southern peas on the same ground year after year. For dried peas, let the pods mature and dry on the vines. Recommended for warm climate areas.
