Instructions Chevron Down Chevron Forward

Peas are a cool-season crop, easy to grow and very quick to harvest. Direct-sow the seeds 1 to 2 inches apart and 1 to 1½ inches deep. In warm southern and western climates, peas are also ideal as a fall crop started in late summer.

Planting Depth: 1.5"

Seed Spacing: Plant your Green Arrow Organic Pea seeds roughly 2" apart in rows, keeping rows approximately 2.5' apart.

Nutrient Care Instructions: Apply SUPERthrive once per week. Soak in solution of 1/4 tsp per gal for 15 min. or longer depending on size and type.

Suggestions Chevron Down Chevron Forward

When harvesting peas, do not jerk pea pods from vines since rough handling can cause plants to stop producing. It is best to snip clusters of pods from vines with scissors or pruners.

Are there zucchini varieties that climb or grow on trellises?

Most zucchini plants are naturally bush-type, but nearly all can be trained to grow vertically. Use a strong trellis or tomato cage and gently tie the main stems as they lengthen. Regular pruning of lower leaves encourages upward growth and better airflow. Trellising keeps fruit off the ground, reduces rot, and makes harvesting easier.

What are parthenocarpic zucchini varieties, and does Ferry-Morse sell any?

Parthenocarpic zucchini types set fruit without pollination and produce mostly female flowers. Common varieties include Golden Glory, Noche, and Dunja. Ferry-Morse does not currently sell parthenocarpic zucchini, but most standard varieties will still yield well with good pollinator activity.

What is the difference between Determinate and Inderterminate tomatoes?

Determinate tomato varieties are most often "bush type" tomatoes. Determinate tomatoes will set all their fruit in a certain period of time and do not need to be pruned. They grow well in a cage and do not require staking. Determinate tomatoes are smaller and produce fruit early in season.

Indeterminate tomato varieties will require staking and will continue to grow and produce until your first frost date arrives. Indeterminate tomatoes will set their fruit along their growing stems, which should be kept off of the ground. Longer growing period than determinate.

What is an heirloom variety?

Heirloom varieties are open-pollinated seeds that have been saved from generation to generation. Usually varieties referred to as heirloom have been around for more than 50 years and offer a wonderful history in the names and flavors that continually provide dependable quality season after season. The seed from heirloom plants can be saved at the end of the season to be used again the next year.

What are organic seeds?

100% certified organic seeds are harvested from plants grown without synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides. They harbor no residues from these chemicals. Organically grown seed produces hearty, robust plants already adapted to organic growing conditions.

What causes leaf curl on Brandywine tomato seedlings?

Leaf curl is usually due to environmental stress—such as excessive heat, cold, or grow lights placed too close to the foliage. Check for pests such as aphids or whiteflies, but if none are present, move the plants slightly farther from the grow light (if using one) and maintain stable temperatures.
