Sow a few seeds evenly spaced in hills, 8 inches high and 12 inches across. Young vines should have a fence, trellis, or heavy cord on which to climb. When young vines are about 8 inches, thin to 3 plants per hill. Does not transplant well.

Not bad for first attempt

"I purchased these at Walmart I think. I tried sprouting them indoors, but got nothing - I think because they were not getting enough sun - even placing them by the window, they only got a few hours of sun a day, directions recommend "full sun" which usually means at least 6 hours. Tried a different approach - soaked them in milk overnight - planted them outside in the ground in late Spring. Had a good week of warm weather and they sprouted soon after. After that, they grew like crazy and I ended up with vines all over the place. I had four plants, and got four cantaloupes - not sure if all the plants produced fruit because they were so intertwined. The biggest was the one pictured which was about 5 inches in diameter and about 8 inches long. It's very sweet, definitely a good reward for the months of tending to it! I think I'd have better production with more sun, this grew in about 4 hours of direct sunlight per day."
