Start seeds indoors in a warm, sunny location 8-10 weeks before planting outdoors. Wait 3 weeks after the last frost to transplant outside. Or, in warmer climates, sow directly in the garden. Eggplant requires full sun and rich, fertile, well-drained soil.
You can tell when the eggplant is ripe by its glossy purple look. Harvest fruits while still shiny and about the size of your fist. Cut from the stem with a knife.
